Visiting Mimaw & Pipaw

June 22, 2010

We took a quick trip to my in-laws last weekend.  The kids had a great time helping in the garden, swinging and getting wet!

I read this sweet prayer on Carla’s (Cameron’s mother) Facebook page. She has given me permission to re-post it here. How incredible it was to witness this prayer being answered!

“The specific prayers for the wedding had been that God would be present, provide appropriate cloud cover & that as in scripture, the Holy Spirit is portrayed as the wind, He would reveal His presence as a gentle, cool refreshing breeze. The day was hot & sunny. At 3pm the clouds came and covered the sun, dropping the temp.- the rumble of thunder could be heard (the voice of the Lord!) and a gentle, cool, refreshing breeze came…it swirled around Ben & Cameron as they said their vows, lifting her veil! And to give His mighty voice of approval, a loud thunder clap as they walked back down the aisle as Mr. & Mrs. Ben Baldus!  A friend reminded us that Jesus’ first miracle was at a wedding…Thank you God for so graciously answering our prayers and being there!”

I’ve had a lot of firsts with this amazing family.  It was a little over a year ago that I took Cameron’s senior photos.  That was my first photo shoot for anyone outside family.  I’ve also had the blessing of taking her engagement photos and now her wedding!!  I admit, when her mother (Carla) asked me to be their wedding photographer I declined; mostly out of fear since I had never photographed a wedding.  I like to say that Carla prayed me into it!  I couldn’t have asked for a better family to try something new on.  I’m honored to have been a part of such a special day!

Carla had been praying for some cloud cover the day of the wedding.  It was about 95 degrees and shortly after the ceremony started, some clouds rolled up and a cool breeze blew though. You could see rain from a distance but not a drop touched us.  The sun came back out in time for us to head indoors for the reception.  It was a beautiful day!

A big thank you to my dear friend Meg for helping me out.  Being 6 months pregnant, she braved the heat with me.  By the end of the day, she was backing up CF cards with her eyes closed!

The ceremony took place at The Hacienda at Silverado on the Brazos.

Here’s a quick glance at PLC’s Remedy Mission:

Imagine 30 Surgeries in 14 Days Inside Iraq!

  • We’ve invited a team of surgeons from America to Iraq

  • To perform 30 heart surgeries for Iraqi kids

  • (At 1/5 the cost required to send a child to Istanbul) and

  • To train Iraqi doctors and nurses to do these important surgeries.

  • We call this the Remedy Mission.

Imagine giving a lifesaving gift that achieves 5X the impact you are used to seeing! Five times the hope; five times the joy; five times as many little lives saved in Iraq. This August we will provide thirty surgeries inside Iraq and train Iraqi doctors and nurses at 20% of our normal cost at 24X our normal pace through our much-anticipated Remedy Mission.

Remedy Missions are our most high-impact lifesaving initiative to date, through which we bring international surgical teams to Iraq to perform surgery for children needing urgent intervention and to offer long-term training to local doctors and nurses in Iraq that will ultimately save thousands more lives.

What this means…

Remedy Missions are new but our goals are still the same; the number of lives saved will increase but our personal commitment to follow through with each family remains. With your help, thirty kids in Iraq facing imminent death will receive a chance to live and will carry the power of reconciliation written on their hearts for the rest of their lives.

Here are a few of my favorite photos of Ben & Cameron together. There will be more coverage & the story behind shooting my my first wedding coming soon!
